The history of Attwood child Care Centre & Kindergarten
It all started with a grant from the ‘Victoria First’ Work Based Child Care Program that initiated the construction of Attwood Child Care Centre (ACCCK) in 1992. ACCCK was officially opened by the Minister for Community Services as a work based Centre for the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (formerly Victorian Institute of Animal Science) on the 15th of December 1993 and opened for business in January 1994, providing quality child care for the children of the local community and staff members of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources
The ACCCK Association Inc is a parent-run, community not-for-profit organization. A Committee of Management consisting of the ACCCK Director, staff representative, representatives of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources Attwood, and parents of children utilizing the service run the association.
Our Philosophy
ACCCK bases its care and quality program on developed philosophies directed toward the children and families using our services. The values and broad goals of ACCCK are developed in consultation with children, parents, staff and our Committee of Management.
We believe that:

Children develop best in an environment that is safe, secure, nurturing and responsive to individual needs.

Children require a learning environment that allows them to learn at their own pace, with opportunities to attempt, learn, succeed and extend. The program must be flexible and adaptable to change.

Families using our childcare service need to feel comfortable with ACCCK and have regular access to:

Our Aim

Provide a warm, caring environment where the children and families feel comfortable with the service they use.

Promote a positive environment by encouraging positive interactions and communication with children and adults through appropriate role-modeling.

Promote a non-biased environment in all areas such as gender, race or culture.

Create a developmentally appropriate program based on children’s individual interest that is both stimulating and creative.

Use a positive approach to behavior management and techniques.

Promote personal growth for children by encouraging independence and self help skills.

Provide opportunities for parent involvement and participation. For parents to be consulted and involved in the program planning and evaluations where appropriate.

Provide support and education for families.

Support the growth of students and volunteers in our centre.

Provide meals that are nutritious and reflect the different cultures of society.

Rainforest
The Rainforest Room caters for 12 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 2.8 years.
Blossom
The Blossom Room caters for 16 children between the ages of 20 months and 3.8 years.
Dolphin
16 Place Accredited 3 year old Kindergarten room catering for children who are 3 years of age before the 30th of April in the year of attendance.
Kindergarten
22 Place Accredited 4 Year Old Kindergarten room catering for children who are 4 years of age before the 30th of April in the year of attendance.
